Makeover A Man

I said I’d be on break, but I’ve agreed to edit….

I’ve agreed to edit my friends’ closets, that is.You see, I’ve always loved makeovers. Until recently, I did makeovers for a living, and I’ve always been so amazed by their transformative power. With a few tweaks to someone’s style, new steps added to their regimen, and basic tips on channeling and projecting, people are able to feel ultimately better about themselves.

First “victim” on my list is one of my best guy buddies, D. Thankfully he’s NOT a hopeless case. He’s not nearly as impossible as Steve Carell in Crazy, Stupid Love. He’s got the bod to be a K-Pop star, slim frame, medium height, nice jump-off point for a style revamp.

So, here’s the deal: D’s been stuck with this I’m-a-rocker look for years now. So, what’s wrong with that, right? Well, let me enumerate the reasons: 1.) he works in a bank; 2.) we’re not exactly in our early 20s anymore; 3.) and well…he’s not exactly a rocker. He likes being low maint’ and comfy, this I totally get. But, I think there’s nothing wrong with looking a bit more polished and dressed up.

I had been nagging D about it for years (well, in a cariño brutal kind of way), so you can just imagine how pleasantly surprised I was when while hanging out with friends last night, he blurts, “Dali na. You girls come with me shop tomorrow. I need a new wardrobe. You have to help me dress up.”

Challenge accepted.

We start his shopping challenge in a few hours. While I’m going to thank his present “crushie” for the inspiration, I’m proud that D is finally seeing the need to dress up and care about what he wears/how he looks. I think the most effective makeovers start from that self-ignited spark to be spectacular.

I laid downsome basic rules: Be open, think differently, and TRY as I say—no questions asked. We can compromise afterwards.

Let’s see how this afternoon turns out. ;-)
