Beauty: Curls Without Heat?!

(While I wait for later’s shopping trip…and dahil bored ako…)

I have a trip set to Korea at the end of the month and to make sure my photos will look Koreanovela-perfect, I’m trying to master some beauty moves before my trip—the perfect curls, doll-like makeup, the works.

I went to an amazing bazaar yesterday (the US Embassy Bazaar at the World Trade Center) and chanced upon a stall there which sold these interesting CurlFormers. Think: twisted plastic mesh tubes with an applicator that you pull through the mesh tubes to put and set your hair.

After my morning shower, I towel-dried my hair, put some Special Effects Curls Up Mousse, then opened my pack of CurlFormers. At first, they were difficult to put on, but after several attempts, I was finally able to put the mesh tubes on my tresses, well, rather my tresses in the mesh tubes.

So, as I type this, my head is full of curler tubes, and I’m doing some heavy TV-viewing. Low EQ ako, so I’m so tempted to remove the curling tubes and look at the supposedly bouncy waves. But, I’m avoiding the temptation and hoping I can hold off until I really have to get ready for today’s shopping challenge (see my last post). Sana they work! I’ll try to take a nap with them on.

Okay…three hours later…

So, here’s the big reveal:

What do you think? The waves are pretty good—light and big. They look more like waves than curls, but they’re okay. I also must add that t’was so simple to do, no need for the technical wrist flicks like when you’re working with a curling iron. My fave part of all was the fact that I was able to take a nap because the mesh tubes were so soft. I don’t know if these waves and curls will last though. They feel so soft and fragile, and knowing how my hair has the unfortunate ability to flatten out so easily, the challenge will be whether these waves will stay ‘til later.

I still think my hot rollers work the best, but these would be a good alternative to use for trips. They’re extremely light and you wont have to worry about different voltages, since you won’t use any electricity at all. You simply set the tubes before sleeping and wake up with waves.

So, I guess these CurlFormers just might have secured a spot in my luggage for Seoul. We’ll see… ;-)
